Dr. Tellez graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin and earned both her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She was elected into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nurses for academic excellence and leadership. She was also selected as the first nurse intern in the history of The Menninger Clinic, where she received advanced training in the Professionals in Crisis Program, adolescent psychiatry, OCD, and eating disorders. In addition to her extensive psychiatric training, she has experience in therapeutic psychedelics for mental health, as well as subspecialty training in integrative and interventional psychiatry.
While Dr. Tellez has worked with complex psychiatric conditions across multiple levels of care, she is especially passionate about helping adults navigate the challenges of everyday life in a supportive outpatient setting. She believes exceptional psychiatric care begins with truly understanding the person behind the symptoms. Patients often describe her as warm, approachable, collaborative, and deeply invested in their well-being. She strives to create a nonjudgmental environment where individuals feel safe, heard, and understood, and where treatment decisions are made together through a genuine therapeutic partnership.
Dr. Tellez provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy for depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, psychotic disorders, OCD, and treatment-resistant mood disorders. She has special interests in women’s mental health, including perinatal and postpartum psychiatry, supporting individuals and couples throughout fertility journeys, the LGBTQA+ community, and complex or treatment-refractory psychiatric conditions. She also provides Spravato in-office for adults with treatment-resistant depression.
Her approach is holistic, integrative, and evidence-based, recognizing the important connection between mental and physical health. In addition to thoughtful psychopharmacology, Dr. Tellez incorporates lifestyle interventions such as optimizing sleep, nutrition, stress management, exercise, circadian rhythm regulation, light and dark therapy, and evidence-based vitamins and supplements when appropriate. She believes psychiatric treatment should be individualized and collaborative, and for some patients, an integrative approach may also include thoughtfully simplifying or deprescribing medications when clinically appropriate. She also utilizes pharmacogenomic testing to help personalize medication treatment plans and collaborates closely with therapists, dietitians, and other specialists to support whole-person wellness. When indicated, she provides referrals for advanced treatments including TMS, ECT, ketamine-based therapies, and neuropsychological testing. She also offers clients options of traditional in-office and/or telepsychiatry visits.
Committed to lifelong learning and staying at the forefront of psychiatric care, Dr. Tellez regularly pursues advanced education and collaborates with other specialists to provide the highest quality treatment for her patients. She is also a national speaker who educates healthcare professionals on psychopharmacology and advocates for greater mental health awareness and stigma reduction.
Dr. Tellez is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is a member of the Texas Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses Association and the International Society of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurses.
